Born and raised in Mississippi and Tennessee, photographer William Eggleston began capturing the world around him in the early 1960s, inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson’s The Decisive Moment. Initially working in black and white, Eggleston made a pivotal shift to color film in 1966—a move that would help redefine the possibilities of color photography. Occasionally, he also experimented with a two-and-one-quarter inch format, further exploring the nuances of composition and form.
